Bujumbura, Burundi, 27th October, 2017: The Democracy and Good Governance Program (DGG) of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) concluded its Operational Planning Workshop in Bujumbura, Burundi after developing the Operational Plan of the 2018 Regional Initiative on National Resources (RINR) and defined ways to strengthen coordination between various ICGLR partners in the implementation of the RINR Program.

The workshop which involved ICGLR staff and partners evaluated the 2017 Technical Unit Operational plan and identified lessons learnt and best practices. It also reviewed the RINR Strategic Plan and strategized on resource mobilization and partnership creations.

In his closing remarks, Ambassador Zachary Muburi-Muita, the ICGLR Executive Secretary, expressed his appreciation to the Government of Burundi for creating conducive environment for holding the Planning Workshop for the Programme.

He thanked the ICGLR partners GIZ, BGR, IMPACT (formerly PAC) for having attended and actively participated in the Workshop. Specifically the Executive Secretary thanked the GIZ for facilitating logistical arrangements including funding of the Workshop.

The Executive Secretary commend the outcome of the workshop and expressed his appreciation for the forward looking strategy of the Programme on Democracy and Good Governance which focuses on early planning of activities, before the overall ICGLR planning workshop. 

He encouraged all stakeholders to work in synergy and harmony so that all indicators agreed upon can be achieved.
