The ICGLR Ministers of Health met via videoconference on July 10th, 2020, under the chairmanship of Her Excellency Jacqueline Lydia MIKOLO, Minister of Health, Population, Promotion of Women and Integration of Women in Development of the Republic of the Congo to discuss collective measures and way forward to fight the COVID-19 pandemic in the Great Lakes Region.

During the meeting the Ministers expressed concern about the increase in the spread of the pandemic in the ICGLR Member States. The Minsters shared of existing knowledge and information on the SARS-Cov2 coronavirus disease, and agreed to harmonize and coordinate the prevention and response to the COVID-pandemic19 in the Great Lakes Region. The Ministers noted the current response capacity of member states to COVID-19 and committed to strengthening national response plans and emergency funds to fill gaps in prevention, mitigation of impacts and other interventions. Ministers committed to fostering expert exchanges between ICGLR countries in order to close existing gaps in expertise in all areas of the coronavirus COVID 19 pandemic response.

It is worth mentioning that the Virtual meeting of Ministers of health was preceded by a virtual meeting for experts in the field of health on 9th July 2020.
